Anny’s Dairy Bar

The first time we tried to hit up Anny’s Dairy Bar was for their maple twist soft serve. Unfortunately for us, their machine wasn’t open for the season yet. It’s puzzling that their soft serve isn’t offered year round.

Sign outside. Saw quite a few grannies order just the steamie special.

Larger than life maple twist outside along with a table if you want to sit out on the sidewalk and people watch.

We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm). It’s a small spot but there was a continuous stream of people coming in. It’s run by a French woman who does it all.

You can even buy cheese curds and real Quebecois maple syrup!

The menu consists of dessert, a la carte and combos.

Basically, steamie hot dogs, poutine, smoked meat sandwiches and soft serve.

Smoked meat sandwich ($8.25)
DSC01846If you’ve never been to Montreal (where there’s plentiful of options in Schwartz’s, Snowdon Deli and Dunn’s Famous to name a few), then this will suffice.

Anny’s version is okay but wow is it ever a small portion. I’d skip it and try the poutine next time.

Maple twist soft serve ($4.75 large)
DSC01852This is what we came here for. Vanilla soft serve had a pleasant, slightly thicker texture. The stream of maple butter is tasty but we both wanted more of it. Once you’ve licked through the first layer, you’re left with just vanilla.

Decent but I’ll stick with their soft serve offerings.
