House of Funk Brewing caters to the fruit/sour beer style and interestingly enough are named after different Roman goddesses. It’s located a few doors down from Beere Brewing Company.
Sign outside.
Hours.
We’ve been twice and it’s always bumping. The inside has a mix of tables, high top seating and a lounge/couch area.
11 beers on their menu along with Twin Island Cider and coffee. Sadly, they always seem to be sold out of one of their funk juices. Click here for beer menu descriptions (1 and 2).
Closeup of their beer taps.
They had a couple flavours of their beers available for purchase.
There’s a small merchandise section of shirts and hats.
Growler design is slick.
They also do their own coffee beans, which come in a cool can.
Kind of cool stylistically to see coffee in a beer cans. This is the beans they had on our first visit.
They’ve won a few trophies already.
Proudly on display above their merch.
Trip #1
We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 4:45pm).
Funk juice V7: peach + vanilla ($2.25)
This was my favourite of the bunch. Delicious peach with a hint of vanilla at the end. I would have bought a few cans if they had it.
Funk juice V8: pineapple & coconut ($3.00)
This sour was also refreshing and fruity. Good amount of pineapple notes comes through.
Flora V3 ($2.25)
Lavender and chrysanthemum flower. Very light bodied (only 2.8%); was more like kombucha in style than beer.
Diana ($2.25)
Farmhouse ale saison. Standard fare.
Chaka khan V2: kiwi + lime ($3.00)
Their rotating sour IPA. Not bad for an IPA but quite light.
Juno ($3.00)
Blood orange peel and guava sour.
Trip #2
We dropped in on a Monday (around 2:30pm). Sadly, they were out of their funk juice V11: blackberry and peach.
Flora V4, chaka khan, feurre V3 and funk juice V3: marion blackberries. Our favourites were the flora and funk juice marion berries.
Flora had a good sour note but light in flavour due to the rose hips and butterfly pea flower.
Marion berries was like drinking juice.
The chaka khan is decent for an IPA.
Feurre collaboration with the Gull was interesting with sumac, fenugreek and cilantro.
It added a slight spiced note.
Macchiato ($4.00)
N loves her coffee so she wanted to try it here. Good.
Pour over ($4.00)
B tried a pour over which she liked. Not too acidic.
A couple interesting collab’s between House of Funk and Field House.
Definitely can’t go wrong with any of HoF’s funk juice iterations. Cool that they constantly change and tweak things.
