Sushi Taku

Been to Sushi Taku for a couple of visits. They’re a small, Japanese run neighbourhood sushi spot a few doors down from Classic Chinese Craft Kitchen.

The inside is small with 5 tables (total of 15 seats). Service is friendly and they came by several times to refill our waters and tea.

The menu has a variety of dishes. Bento boxes are only available weekdays (11:30am to 2:30pm).

Note: no gluten free soy sauce available.

Trip #1
We dropped in on a evening (around 7:30pm). We were planning to order some takeout after our meal but they ran out of rice! Never experienced that before.

Ebi sunomono ($5.25)
Untitled

Chicken karage ($7.95)
UntitledIt takes about 10 minutes to prepare but it’s worth the wait. Piping hot, crunchy exterior and soft, tender inside. The sauce also added some extra flavour.

Beef yaki soba ($12.25)
UntitledGood portion.

Mango mango roll ($10.50)
UntitledPrawn tempura, crab meat and mango sauce on top. Sauce added a nice sweetness.

Salmon sashimi ($14.50 for 8)
UntitledGood portion sizes. Hard to find cheap salmon sashimi these days.

Negitoro roll ($4.75)
Untitled

Spicy chopped scallop roll ($5.75)
Untitled

California roll ($4.50)
UntitledStandard fare.

Trip #2
We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:15pm).

Scallop tataki roll ($11.25)
UntitledCalifornia roll, aburi scallop and yam bits.

Negitoro roll ($4.75)
UntitledTuna and green onions are oddly not mixed together. Don’t love how they’re made here.

Oshinko roll ($3.25)
UntitledThe Japanese pickled daikon lacked a crunchy texture, no pickled note.

Deluxe assorted sashimi ($28.95 for 22)
Untitled4 salmon, 4 sockeye salmon, 4 tuna, 3 tako, 3 amaebi, 2 toro and 2 saba. For a “deluxe”, it would have been nice to see one or two other types of sashimi offered.

Best pieces were the saba and toro.

Untitled

I liked the regular salmon (fattier, better bite) over the sockeye salmon. Found the tako watery.

Spicy agedashi tofu ($6.25)
UntitledStandard fare.

Sunny roll ($9.95)
UntitledYam roll, seared spicy tuna and yam bits.

Spicy chopped scallop roll ($5.75)

Nothing will blow you away at ST but decent value.
