Busan Daeji Gukbap

We were looking for a place to grab lunch after a hike and settled on Busan Daeji Gukbap. They’re located next to Vaades The Indian Restaurant. They also have a second location out in Coquitlam (aka. Little Korea).

Sign outside.

We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 12:45pm). There was only one waitress running the front so it took awhile to get our order in.

The menu is quite large with meal, combo, BBQ, special dishes, hot pot and chicken (aka. KFC) options. Prices are definitely on the higher end for Korean.

Banchan
UntitledKimchi, cubed radish, braised potato and pickled onion.

Nothing stood out but decent fare. We were able to get a refill of everything.

Tteok-boki ($16.99)
UntitledFish cakes, rice cakes, cabbage, carrot and onion. Okay but there wasn’t much substance to this dish. Wish it came with a bowl of rice. Didn’t find the dish worth it’s price point.

Sundubu ($17.99)
UntitledWe opted for the seafood and spice level 3 for our soft tofu soup, which came with a bowl of rice. Broth was flavourful and there was a slight blimp of heat that came through. Decent amount of seafood (mostly mussels).

Dolsot bibimbap ($17.99)
UntitledBeef, spinach, carrot, yellow radish, shiitake mushroom, daikon, zucchini, bean sprouts and egg yolk. The rice came out sizzling and crisped up perfectly. Good balance of flavours.

Better than expected Korean eats at BDG but it doesn’t beat Maru Korean Bistro in North Van.
