Gasthaus On the Lake

We’ve been looking forward to trying Gasthaus on the Lake for awhile now. It’s definitely the most popular restaurant in Peachland.

We dropped in on an early Saturday evening (around 5:30pm). They weren’t taking phone reservations so we rolled the dice and decided to try our luck. It was busy and the hostess quoted us an hour to 90 minute wait. Luckily, it was only 30 minutes.

Service was non-existent and our waitress didn’t even offer to refill our water jug.

Halbe ente ($27.00)
DSC04655Oven roasted half duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings.

The duck looked great but once we cut into it, found out it was overcooked. At least the skin was crispy and well seasoned.

Unfortunately, that couldn’t save this dish.

Kutscherpfanne-Gasthaus pan ($27.00)
DSC04644Pork roast, schnitzel, bratwurst, gravy, jager sauce, red cabbage and potato dumplings. Went with this dish so that we could try a variety of their meats.

DSC04647

The best piece turned out to be the pork roast.

DSC04648

Bratwurst was tiny and dry.

DSC04646

Schnitzel was also dry and had no crispy or crunchy bite.

DSC04649

At least the mustard was legit. Slightest zip to it.

DSC04642

I asked for the jager on the side; sauce was bland.

The potato dumplings were good with the gravy while the red cabbage had a nice tangy flavour.

Pretty disappointing German food at GotL. Not on our return list.
