Our second winery stop of the afternoon was at Rollingdale Winery. They proudly serve 100% certified organic wines.
A couple signs out front.
They have a couple areas outside. Mist spray included!
We dropped in on a Thursday (with 5:00pm reservations) and were the only ones tasting. A wine tour van did come afterwards when we were heading out.
A couple of their bottles and various awards that Rollingdale has won over the years.
This sign was great.
Our hostess was friendly, informative and genuine. She knew their wines inside and out.
Tasting fee is $6.96/person and includes 5 pours but we were given a bonus pour. Fee is waived with a purchase of a bottle.
2020 Riesling
A medium sweet. Easy drinking.
2020 Organic estate pinot gris
Nice, smooth finish. On the more sweeter side for pinot gris but we detected notes of apricot.
2020 Estate chardonnay
This was the most surprising of all. Our hostess called this a “chardonnot” which was spot on. Tropical notes of passion fruit and velvety smooth. Nothing like a typical chardonnay (no oak or buttery mouth feel). We bought a bottle ($26.87) for home.
2019 Rosé
Well balanced in acidity and sweetness. Not too jammy and slightly tart. A touch of cranberry came through.
2017 Pinot noir
Medium bodied and smooth.
2018 Late harvest viognier
Notes of orange blossom. Similar to an ice wine but nowhere near the sweetest level. Found this superbly balanced.
RW surprised us and turned out to be our favourite winery of the day. A hidden gem.
