We were looking for a quick bite to eat nearby so decided to try out Mag’s 99 Fried Chicken and Mexican Cantina. Their usual place is under renovations so they currently are doing things out of a food truck. It’s in a plaza that houses a bunch of chains (DQ, Domino’s Pizza,The Chopped Leaf and Noodlebox) and Indian Masala Express.
We dropped in on a Sunday (around 2:30pm). There’s plenty of seating outside to sit at (a mix of picnic and regular tables). Service is extremely quick; it literally took two minutes to make our meal. Clearly not made to order.
The menu consists of fried chicken, burritos, burrito bowls, taco salad, chimichanga, tacos, quesadilla and poutines. A very random array of options.

We opted for the sweet pulled ancho pork, refried beans, spanish rice, lime slaw, cheese and Baja sauce. The pulled pork was cold and dry; reminded me of when you put meat in a slow cooker and overcook it. Not much meat offered, mostly shredded cabbage. The food reminded me of going to a fast food chain (ie. Mucho Burrito). Flavours are bland, boring and one-dimensional.
Keep your expectations low and don’t expect real Mexican food if you come to Mag’s. Won’t be back
