We decided to check out La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop for their happy hour specials. Never been before but it’s a very hipster spot to grab tacos and burritos. They have two other locations (Hastings and North Van) but this one is across from Menya Raizo.
Sign outside and hours.
We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 3:30pm). Place was pretty busy but they have a good amount of seating inside and out on their patio area. Order and pay at the counter first; food is brought out to your table.
The regular menu is pricey; normal meat tacos are $6.50 to $8.00. Insane. They also have burritos, specials and churros.
Their happy hour is available everyday (3:00pm to 6:00pm).
Horchata ($3.00)
Smooth, good cinnamon flavour. Happy that they do this well here.
Pozole ($6.50)
Pozole rojio estilo jalisco with small pieces of pork shoulder, hominy corn, lettuce, diced onions, radishes and a side of chips.
Soup was flavourful and balanced. Very tender pieces of pork shoulder. Would get this again.
4x Tacos – we decided to try their atun ($4.50), fish baja ($4.50), cabo ($4.75) and carnitas ($4.50). These tacos were actually bigger than expected.
Best one was the carnitas; avocado salsa verde was tasty.
The atun (seared tuna) was interesting; a bit of fusion of flavours.
You get quite the portion of baja (two pieces of fish) and cabo (three pieces of prawns); flavours aren’t as enticing as the other two.
Al pastor burrito bowl ($13.75)
Achiote marinated pork, charro beans, pineapple, pico de gallo and chipotle mayo. We liked the variety of ingredients. The pineapples were sweet and juicy while the pork was flavourful.
Decent first visit at LTPTS. Happy hour prices are reasonable so time your visit.
