Tandoori Kona

We randomly spotted Tandoori Kona after we discovered that the place we wanted to eat at was only offering takeout. It’s located next door to Typhoon Bubble Tea Taiwanese Cuisine.

We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 2:00pm) and it was busy inside. Mostly takeout orders but several groups/individuals were eating in. Service was fine and they dropped off a jug of water for our table.

The menu consists of appetizers, meats (chicken, lamb, goat, seafood), chef’s recommendations), tandoori, vegetable, biriyani, breads and desserts. Seems pricier than normal with most dishes in the $14.95 to $18.95 price range.

The two lunch specials aren’t on the menu but just ask. One of the cheapest deals we’ve seen in a long time! Make sure to ask for your spice level (mild, medium or hot) otherwise default is mild.

Chai ($1.75)
DSC03919Came halfway through our meal but it was a decent cup. It needed a sprinkling of sugar (which they provide separately if you want to add).

Naan
DSC03912The basket of naan that they give you is huge. Standard fare but we had a few pieces leftover to bring home.

Butter chicken thali lunch special ($8.95)
DSC03918Butter chicken, bhurtha (eggplant and potatoes), daal, raita, rice and iceberg salad.

I liked that the butter chicken sauce wasn’t too rich, with some tomato notes coming through. Don’t expect much meat.

DSC03911

The eggplant was soft but a touch on the bland side.

DSC03915

Daal was good.

DSC03917

Raita was a bit different than the norm, but we enjoyed it.

Rice and salad were normal fare.

Vegetable thali lunch special ($8.95)
DSC03909The only thing different is that they replace the butter chicken with palak paneer. The palak paneer also leaned towards the bland side.

If you’re looking for a cheap lunch deal, TK is the spot.
