Great to see the Marutama Ramen empire slowly expanding out into the burbs. This is their 5th location and this one is located across the street from Daily Delicious.
Hours.
Sign outside.
We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm) thinking we wouldn’t have to wait. Think again. It was a 30 minute wait to get a table. There’s 5 tables inside and one large table out on their outdoor patio. Service is friendly and they offer you hot tea or water (hot/cold).
Condiments are brought to your table; those garlic chips are the best.
The menu is straightforward. If you’ve been to any of their other locations, expect the same.
You order at the entrance before they bring you in to be seated.
Tamago ramen ($12.50)
We asked for our noodles firm. Broth was good; creamy but lacked a bit of richness compared to their other locations.
Chashu slices are thin and small but the tamago is excellent (as always).
Shoyu ramen ($13.00)
Don’t think I’ve actually tried this one until now. Broth still has that creamy mouth feel with a subtle soy sauce flavour/note in the background.
My favourite thing was actually the bamboo shoots; great chewy texture and really soaked up the broth. Spinach added some balance and healthiness to the bowl.
I wouldn’t come all the way out to Richmond for ramen but glad to see Marutama excelling.
