Been meaning to check out Sopra Sotta Pizzeria with a few co-workers for the last few months. They have a second location on Commercial Drive. This location is nearby to Chad Thai.
We dropped in on a Friday (around 11:45am) and were able to grab a table in the back for 6. The inside is beautiful and the pizza stove/oven is on full display. Only one waiter so it took some time to get our order in.
Fresh pizza dough!
The menu is split into antipasta, pasta, pizza and dolci. Click here to see (1, 2, 3 and 4).
They also have a daily happy hour (2:00pm to 5:00pm) with a few drinks and pizzas on special ($9.00 to $14.00).
It’s a bit disappointing that they don’t offer any lunch specials.
2x Chitarrine al ragù ($20.00)
Square spaghetti made fresh in-house served with a bolognese sauce. The spaghetti had a great al dente bite. Sauce was fresh and flavourful. Sometimes simple is best but a little pricey for what you get. It needed something else, a bit of meat would have helped balance the dish out.
Margherita ($15.00)
San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella, grana cheese and basil. Again, simple but tomatoes added a touch of sweetness.
Dough had a good chew and slight, enjoyable crispness to the crust.
Vegetariana ($19.00)
Roasted zucchini, eggplant, red peppers, cherry tomatoes, olives, parsley, mozzarella and grana cheese. This co-worker found her pizza had too much going on and that the vegetables weren’t sliced thin enough.
Diavola ($18.00)
San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella, spicy Italian salami, grana cheese and basil. A couple others in our group shared this one. Didn’t get to try.
Not the cheapest spot but SSP is popular.
