WildTale (Yaletown)

It’s been many years since my last visit to WildTale in Yaletown. We decided to give them a visit during happy hour. They’re next door to Earls but they also have a second location out in Olympic Village.

Happy hour sign outside.

We dropped by on a Thursday (around 5:45pm), just in time for happy hour, which runs from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and 10:00pm to close. We were able to snag a couch seated table on the patio. Heat warmers and blankets are available if you get cold. Service is solid and they came by several times to refill our waters.

Happy hour menu consists of appetizers, raw bar, steamers and buck a shuck.

There’s also a couple drink specials ($5.25 to $8.25).

Moscow mule ($6.75)
DSC09763Been ages since I’ve had one of these. Can’t complain.

2x Lobster & shrimp roll ($5.00 each)
DSC09769A bit lame that minimum order is two but we wanted to try them.

Decent but I didn’t taste much lobster in them. Probably wouldn’t order this again.

Baja fish tacos ($6.75 for 2)
DSC09775It came with a side of pineapple salsa. Didn’t love the flour tortilla that they used. Fish was okay.

If you’re expecting real tacos, lower your expectations. Average at best.

Parmesan fries ($6.50)
DSC09764With a black truffle aioli. The fries were good. Truffle oil was prominent. This would probably be the only thing I’d order again.

Fresh seafood ceviche ($7.75)
DSC09777Came with tortilla chips. More fish than shrimp.

I want my ceviche flavours to be bright, fresh and acidic; I didn’t get any of those.

12x Oysters ($1.00 each)
DSC09772Can never say no to buck a shuck. Minimum order is 6; it came with grated horseradish and a wedge of lemon. Oysters were small and briney.

For a dollar, not bad but I would have been okay with ordering less.

Decent happy hour deals at WT but the food is average.
