We were in the Capital Hill neighbourhood so decided to drop into Carmelo’s Tacos for a light dinner. It’s located inside Hillcrest Market.
Sign outside.
We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 7:00pm). You order from the outside but can eat inside where there’s 10 bar style seats. Impressed that their seating area has hooks underneath to store your jacket/bags.
The menu consists of tacos ($2.65 US), burritos ($8.50 US), quesadillas ($8.75 US) and drinks.
There’s a choice of four meat and two vegetable options.

6x Tacos ($2.65 US each)
We tried one of each; al pastor (pork and pineapple), campechano (mix of chorizo, grilled steak and potato), pollo adobado, asada, nopal (grilled cactus) and hongo al ajillo (mushrooms).
My favourites were the al pastor and campechano. Both meats were juicy and with balanced flavours.
Asada was a touch salty.
Pollo a touch dry.
Both veggie options were enjoyable but the hongo was better. A good kick too.
The tortilla is clearly homemade; slightly thicker and rustic with a bite. We also liked the avocado and red sauce thrown on top.
The pickled vegetables (onion, carrot and yellow pepper) were excellent but wish they gave you more.
CT’s was enjoyable but not all their meats were home run’s.
