It’s shocking that there’s no reviews on Africa Trading. A bit out of the way but walkable from the breweries along Brewers Row is a tiny shop that specializes in South African products, specifically biltong.
They’re in a small plaza that also houses a couple other food warehouse spots.
Sign outside.
Hours. Closed on Sunday and Monday.
We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm) and there were several customers inside. There were 6 types of beef jerky (apparently, there’s usually even more options). The one worker was friendly and explained each of his flavours. He let us try a few samples before using a machine to cut up the jerky into bite sized slices.
If you don’t visit Port Moody often, you can get AT’s biltong at African Breese Specialty Foods (in Kitsilano). Biltong is different from the usual beef jerky; no added salt, low in fat and gluten free.
There was also some other South African products (hello Nando’s peri-products).
Hunters biltong beef ($10.00)
Thinly sliced and fresh with a softer texture/bite.
Chili bites ($10.00)
If you like a kick, get these. The chili bites were bomb. Chewier but I could have ate the whole bag myself.
Quality, fresh jerky! You’ll be hooked once you’ve tried it. If only we made it to Port Moody more often…
