A buddy that used to live in SF raved to me about how good the fried chicken sandwich was at The Bird. We decided to check them out for a quick bite.
Hours.
Outside menu.
We dropped in on a Monday afternoon (around 12:15pm) and just missed the rush. Order and pay at the counter then wait for your name to be called. There’s a daily happy hour (4:00pm to 7:00pm).
The menu is short and sweet; fried chicken, curly fries and biscuits.
You can combo your meal into a “Happier Meal”. Click here for the menu (breakfast and lunch/dinner).
You have the option of getting normal or spicy.
They also have bottles of homemade sriracha on the tables.
Fried chicken sandwich ($8.00 US)
There’s sliced red cabbage and pickles inside. We opted for spicy but it was very, very mild. The chicken was okay but didn’t wow us; wasn’t super moist or juicy.
The batter was crunchy but a touch or two overdone in the fryer. Still doesn’t beat the best one I’ve had at The People’s Pig (in Portland).
I’m not sure I’d make a visit solely to The Bird but maybe if you happen to be in the area.
