It was a very snowy day so the perfect time to go food Vietnamese. We decided to try Viet House, which I’ve never been to but N’s been a few times. It’s located next door to a XFT branch.
We dropped in on a snowy Wednesday (around 6:15pm) and it was reasonably busy. They had a TV up in the corner playing Jeopardy. Service isn’t particularly friendly or helpful.
The three page menu consists of appetizers, steamed bao, banh mi, vegetarian, pho, vermicelli, rice, sauteed, chef specials and desserts.
Spicy hue lemongrass beef soup (#18) ($11.50)
Bun bo hue. Beef balls, beef brisket, ham, quail, onions in a spicy lemongrass beef soup. The broth lacked depth and flavour; only notes I tasted was MSG.
Meat quality didn’t fare much better but the one good thing is you get a TON of meat. The beef brisket was dry and overcooked.
Broth was spicy but also had a lightness to it (I tasted lime). Rare beef was excellent; thinly sliced, tender and didn’t overcook.
