Mi Rancho Meat Market

We decided to drive all the way back from our trip to the San Juan Islands to get our Mexican in. Mi Rancho Meat Market has been on my list of places to try as they have $1.00 tacos!

Hours.

We dropped in on an early Sunday evening (around 5:00pm) to find the place packed. It’s sit yourself style with one friendly, young waitress that looks after everyone. She was great!

There’s about 7 tables in the back, another two booths in the grocery/market area and a few picnic tables outside. There’s everything you’d need here; fresh meat, pastries, fruit/vegetables, spices, chili peppers, sauces, snacks and drinks.

There’s no official menus but you can choose from tacos, quesadilla, burritos and tortas.

For meats, there’s asada, adobada, pollo and buche but the waitress told us they were already out of a few things.

Valentino hot sauce ($1.49 US) – can’t ever go wrong Valentino sauce. Cheap and tasty.

Corn nuts ($1.12 US)

Pineapple ($2.79 US)
DSC04328Not too sweet, refreshing and real bits of pineapple in it. Never seen this brand before but it’s great.

Horchata ($2.79 US)
DSC04354We decided to bring a bottle of horchata for home.

Chips & salsa
DSC04323Chips are crunchy and both salsas are tasty.

I liked the red more and the heat was more direct. Green was more subtle and burned slower. Thought the spice level was perfect.

Pinto beans
DSC04324These come slightly warmed. Somewhat like a pallet cleanser.

6x Tacos ($1.00 US each)
DSC04333We got two each of asada, adobada and pollo. They came topped with onion, cilantro and lime. Corn tortillas are handmade.

The asada was and pollo were reasonably good. However, they required a dollop of sauce to round things out.

The adobada was salty on its own and I wish there was larger bits of pineapple in it. But for a dollar, you can’t really complain too much.

Adobada quesadilla ($6.49 US)
DSC04336It came with a side of beans and rice. Beans were better quality than the norm. Rice wasn’t that great.

Quesadilla is packed with meat and cheese but it’s greasy. Decent but would spring for more tacos next time.

Can’t go wrong with $1.00 US tacos. We’ll be back for more of those.
