Met up with a few friends I hadn’t seen in ages. Decided to finally try Downlow Chicken Shack. They’re next door to Kin Kao Thai Kitchen.
We dropped in on a Thursday (around 6:15pm) and there was a line out the door. There was still a line when we left. The wait was about 20 minutes to order and we were lucky to snag a table inside. Water is self serve.
The menu is all about chicken; chicken by the piece, the sando, tenders, all the combos and chicken & waffles. You can choose from 5 heat levels (mild, medium, hot, extra hot and side of milk).
6x Big wing Wednesday ($2.00 each)
We decided to try half a “hot” dozen wings. These are just as described. Not your typical dinky wings. Crispy, thick and the hot was a perfect heat level. The white bread and pickles weren’t my favourite.
Tenders ($9.00 small)
Comes with one sauce (we chose honey mustard). Tenders were fantastic. Perfectly breaded and juicy. These are chicken tenders elevated.
Two by four ($22.00)
4 boneless thighs and two sides. We picked the fries and mac salad. I had heard great things about the fries but these were average.
Mac salad was cold and bland.
I’d skip on the sides. That being said, the thighs were top notch.
Glad we finally tried out Downlow but don’t have an immediate hankering to come back.
