Our second and last pitstop in Cawston was at Orofino Vineyards.
They were recommended to us by a friend that loves wine. It’s only a few minutes drive from Twisted Hills Cidery.
We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 1:30pm). It wasn’t busy so we had the full attention of their staff.
Tasting menu is $5.00/person and gets you 5 samples.
Couple closeups of their wine bottles.
There was 11 to choose from (4 whites and 7 reds). As usual, tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle.
Bottles are in the $20.00 to $45.00 range (tax included).
2018 White bridge
Easy drinking white blend of muscat, chardonnay and riesling.
2017 Scout vineyard riesling – sweet aroma but a mineral taste that B did not particularly enjoy.
2018 Gamay – this was our favourite of the bunch so we bought a bottle ($25.00). Juicy, smooth raspberries.
2017 Scout vineyard syrah – peppery and earthy notes.
2016 Passion pit vineyard cabernet sauvignon – a classic cab sav. Very savoury.
2016 Hendsbee vineyard petit verdot– these are usually blended with other reds so it was interesting to try on its own. Much more tannin forward (aka. dry).
