Dinesty Dumpling House

It’s been ages (more than four years to be exact) since my last visit to a Dinesty Dumpling House. They have two other locations (in Richmond and downtown). This branch is next door to Simmer Huang and Trattoria.

There’s also a daily special (only Monday to Friday) that’s only posted up outside.

We dropped in on a Wednesday (around 6:15pm) and the place was packed. The inside is huge so I was surprised that we had to wait 10 minutes for a table for three to open up. Service is quick and efficient; you just need to flag someone down for tea refills. They give the smallest cups of water.

Menu is massive with dumplings, appetizers, meat (beef, pork, chicken & duck, fish, shrimp & crab, seafood), vegetable, rice, noodle, soup, dessert and breakfast.

Beef noodle soup + pork pot stickers ($10.50)
DSC02732This was their Wednesday special. It says $10.95 on the poster but we were charged slightly less. Beef was very tender but the broth was salty.

Six pieces of pot stickers were decent.

Those are already worth $6.95 by themselves.

Noodles with homemade meat sauce ($7.95)
DSC02733Zha jia ming. Standard.

Pan fried chive dumplings ($3.95 for 2)
DSC02741These are so tiny. Menu picture is deceiving.

Not much chives, nothing special.

XLB ($7.95 for 8)
DSC02740Steamed pork dumplings. Tiny but the wrapper was thin. Not much soup. Would say these are average.

Shanghai pan fried pork buns ($8.50 for 6)
DSC02743Sheng jian bao. This was the best out of everything we ordered. Fluffy, good crisp on the bottom. Wish there some soup inside.

Dinesty is what it is. Cheap Shanghainese eats.
