Koko Monk Chocolates

Another spot that we tried during Hot Chocolate Festival was Koko Monk Chocolates. Finally, a real artisanal chocolatier spot. They have a second location on West Broadway and are a stone’s throw away from AnnaLenna.

We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 4:45pm). The place is tiny with only two seats in one corner and a communal table (six more seats) in the other corner. There’s a couple tables outside but that’s it.

They have drinks (over a dozen hot chocolate options). Turkish coffee also seemed to be a speciality of theirs.

If you want to try a flight, you have to buy two orders.

The three flavours were red Cadillac (salted almond hot chocolate with pink peppercorn), Istanbul – Tokyo double kicker (vegan coconut milk matcha tea white chocolate with Turkish coffee) and lyric and dagger (black sesame white hot chocolate with lemon and lime caramel).

DSC00412

Like that they told us how to drink it (from least to most sweetest). Our favourite was the Istanbul – Tokyo; well balanced with matcha and a Turkish twist.

DSC00416

Red Cadillac was sweet and salty. Pink peppercorn was interesting but subtle.

DSC00415

Lyric and dagger wasn’t as sweet as we expected but it had a caramel, almost butterscotch flavour. we didn’t get any black sesame notes.

Not cheap but good quality hot chocolate drinks.
