Thanh Xuan Café

I’ve been wanting to try Thanh Xuan Cafe for ages. Seriously, I remember spotting it from the car a few years ago. Their specialty is banh cuon and they’re located in the same plaza as Pho Hoa. Phoenix Massage is also right next door if you’re interested in one of those types of massages 😉

We dropped in on a Wednesday (around 12:15pm) for lunch and it was busy. There’s only 5 tables so it’s a tight squeeze. The ladies working here are straight up ‘Nammers so don’t expect much English. Nice that they start you off with a cup of cold tea.

The menu is very limited; basically, banh cuon and three types of noodle soups.

Banh cuon nhan thit tom ($9.00)
DSC05952Steamed handmade paper rolls with pork and shrimp. It comes with a side of lettuce and herbs, nuoc mam and chili peppers.

Delicious! This is what they’re known for and it shows. Literally, every table ordered this (and took one to go it seemed). Fresh, chewy, satisfying. Just get it.

Bun reu cua ($10.00)
DSC05955Gourmet crab noodle soup. The noodles were a little too soft for my liking but the broth was light and tasty.

It came with sliced pork, two chunks of minced crab, tomato, water celery sticks and green onions. This bowl won’t blow you away but it was satisfying enough.

Solid hole in the wall that excels in a few things! Cash only.
