It’s been almost 9 months since I’ve been back in town. Surprisingly, not many new things have opened. The only real place that intrigued me was Golomein Noodle House which specializes in Brunei food. It’s located a few doors down from TeaCup2Go.
Hours are strange. Closed Sunday and Monday AND aren’t open for lunch on Wednesdays.
We dropped in for lunch on a Tuesday (around 12:30pm). The inside is small with only two tables and a couple seats for people getting takeout. The guys working were really friendly and service was great.
The menu is small with only 15 items; thin Shanghai noodles, vermicelli rice noodles, rice, frozen golo-mein and roti.
The counter had a few photos of their most popular items.
You can even buy noodle packages for home.
Never knew but you can even find them at three different farmers markets around the city (Old Strathcona, Callingwood and Salisbury).
Roti (#15) ($5.00 half dozen)
This came with a peanut dipping sauce. Roti were light and fresh but would have liked more of a bite to them.
Golo-mein pork (#1) ($12.95)
Miso infused thin Shanghai noodles with BBQ pork, bok choy, coriander, cumin and fennel satay ground pork. This was recommended to us; quite sure this is their best seller. The ground pork was beautifully flavoured and had a good heat to it. BBQ pork was also delicious while the noodles had a satisfying bite. Hidden underneath everything is some bok choy to add some much needed vegetables.
Nau-lam-fan (beef and rice dinner) (#7) ($11.95)
Slow roasted beef cubes with jasmine rice and cucumbers. It comes with two sides; chili peppers and a slightly spicy and sweet sauce.
The rice and beef are pretty plain so we used plenty of the sauce. Beef was very tender.
It’s a homey spot. Stick with the noodles over the rice bowls.
