The first time I heard/read about Edmonton finally getting a real gelato spot, I was like FINALLY. Seriously, what took so bloody long? La Carraia Gelateria opened up shop a few months ago. Can you believe their only other location is in Florence, Italy? Can’t get more legit than that. They’re located next door to Cinnaholic.
There’s a sign outside showing their classic, seasonal and special flavours (a total of 40). I’m impressed that all the ingredients come straight from Italy.
We dropped in on a Wednesday evening after dinner (around 9:00pm). The weather was cold and dreary but there were quite a few people that dropped in to grab a cone.
The inside is small with only four small counter tables to sit at. There’s more (larger) tables outside.
Staff were young, friendly and let you try several samples. There were about 16 flavours available but they brought out a few more after we’d ordered.
Dropped in a second time and they had an even bigger selection.
The menu is pretty straightforward. Gelato prices are standard: $4.90 (1 scoop), $5.90 (2 scoop) and $7.50 (3 scoops).
They also have hot drinks, cold drinks and desserts.
Will have to try their duomo and cakes!
Coconut and pineapple ($5.90 double scoop)
Waffle cone ($1.00) is worth it. Crispy texture. They even had all the colours of the rainbow ones. I went with a classic combo; both flavours were fantastic but I really appreciated the freshness of the pineapple. The gelato had a great texture.
Pistachio and cream caramel ($5.90 double scoop)
L went with two different flavours. Pistachio was excellent. I found the cream caramel to be pretty sweet but she had no qualms with it. Perfect if you have a sweet tooth.
This is going to be a popular spot. Great Italian quality gelato and sorbet. Finally a real gelato shop in town!
