Scandilicous was a pleasant find. We were looking for a brunch place to try and I happened to stumble upon this place in a quick search.
Sign outside advertising their omelette of the day.
They also have a dirt cheap sunrise special (7:00am to 9:00am on weekdays) for $5.99! If I ever woke up that early, I’d be all over that.
Hours are pretty standard for a cafe.
We dropped in for a late Monday lunch (around 1:45pm). The place wasn’t too busy when we arrived. There’s a small patio outside but it’s loud with the traffic and trucks passing by so we sat inside.
Interesting that they have little signs up restricting you to 1 hour if it’s at peak times/busy inside. Didn’t realize they were so popular. You order at the counter, pay and then they’ll bring your food out to you.
The menu is up front on the chalkboard; savoury and sweet waffles, all day breakfast, sandwiches, smorrebrod (Norwegian open faced sandwiches), grill and burgers.
Coffee that you can buy.
Water is self serve and up at the front.
A signed poster up of John Catucci of “You’ve Gotta Eat Here” fame. Guess he came here to eat. *shrug*
Salmon, two poached eggs, hollandaise, red onion and capers. This was excellent! Eggs benny waffle is my new favourite brunch combo. Waffle was soft and crunchy while the hollandaise sauce was indulging but not too rich. Eggs had that boomerang worthiness.
Apple piffle ($9.00)
Ginger bread spice spread, apple pie filling, whipped cream, cinnamon and apple slices. Again, delicious! Perfect, sweet way to end our meal. Loved the cinnamon and the ginger bread spread/sauce.
I’d definitely come back to try more items on the menu. Give them a shot if you’re heading to a brewery in the ‘hood.
