Yuzen’s rebranded to what they’re now calling Menya Yuzen. With that comes a brand new menu and a ramen only joint. That’s right, you read right, they only serve ramen. They’ve opened up a sushi shop in St. Albert, Sushi Yuzen (585 St. Albert Trail).
The hours. They’re finally open beyond the weekend! Hurrah.
We came on a late Saturday (1:00pm) as I was hoping to miss the first rush but it was packed. I put our name down and were quoted 45 minutes. Turned out to only be about 20-25 minutes. Not too bad.
The menu has appetizers, sashimi, donburi and traditional/gyokai tonkotsu/tonkotsu mix/spicy ramen options. 14 varieties to choose from. Curious if the abura soba (soulless) is good.

Seaweed salad ($3.50)
This came with their lunch special. Good but a bigger portion would have been appreciated.
Tako-wasa ($4.50)
I’m not a huge tako fan but the raw marinated octopus was done well. The wasabi is very prominent.
Gyokai tonkotsu ($13.50)
This is their new broth! A mix of traditional, pork and seafood. You can really taste the funkiness of the seafood. Delicious. I’d asked for the thick noodles but they messed up and brought me thin ones. No worries, they still had a great, chewy bite. We asked for the noodles to be a bit harder/al dente which they nailed.
Traditional tonkotsu ($13.00)
CC added an egg ($1.00) to her bowl. The tonkotsu itself is creamy and rich. Love this one as well.
Shoyu tonkotsu mix ($13.00)
J also added an egg (no clue why there’s two in her bowl but I got to benefit). Their egg can use some work. The broth was much lighter and cleaner than the other two.
I found these photos from a previous trip. They still have these bowls available.
I barely go out for ramen in Edmonton because the scene is awful but Menya Yuzen is the only place I’ll make an exception. 100% worth the drive!
