I’ve never visited the Art of Cake when they were situated in the basement of City Centre. Now that they’ve moved into a more accessible area (Brewery District), we decided to check them out after lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. They’ve got two entrances. The back one is located right beside Iconoclast Koffiehuis while the front is if you park in the Brewery District.
The hours are pretty typical but it’s nice to see they’re open till 9:00pm on Friday.
The decor is very cute with lots of room to sit, eat and lounge around. They’ve got antique cashier tills, a piano, cake/pastry ware, etc.
There’s a cake menu and they’re pricey. From 6″ = $40.00 to 10″ = $90.00.
Pastry case had all sorts of cookies, cupcakes and confections. I wish they had signs with prices for their items but there is nada. You have to ask if you want to find out.
Closeup of the cupcakes and cookies.
They even have some macarons.
Cakes look very decadent. Perfect for weddings.
There’s also a small drinks menu.
We were planning to drop by Iconoclast Koffiehuis afterwards so we skipped out on drinks.
Blueberry lemon butter cake ($4.50)
This would have been perfect with a cup of coffee/tea. Without that, we found it a tad dry but not overly sweet. Perfect is you’re not a huge sweet person.
Lemon raspberry cupcake ($3.75)
This was decadent. The top is made from real buttercream so you’re getting what you pay for. Cupcakes are their specialty and I can see why.
Cute spot to bring a date. Maybe one day I’ll try ordering a cake but I hear the wait time is a year…
