Banjara is another new south Indian restaurant to open up. Located near Duggan Park, it’s hidden in a plaza housing The Three Amigos and a few other random restaurants. Yokozuna Japanese Restaurant is a better landmark (a few blocks north).
The inside is tastefully done and I was at ease the moment I walked in. Our waitress was great. Old school Rihanna was playing in the background; loved it.
The menu is extensive but we let L do the ordering. There’s starters, salads, tandoori sizzles, chicken, meat, seafood, vegetarian, breakfast, rice, breads and desserts.

They also had a couple special dosas.
Tomato bajji ($4.99)
Tomato coated in chickpea batter. This was an excellent couple of lightly fried bites.
Stuffed cheese dosa ($10.99)
One of their specials. I think we’ve been ordering a lot of dosas recently; this one was good but pretty standard fare.
Paneer tikka ($12.99)
Comes out piping hot on a skillet. Cheese cubes were tasty and liked the onions and yellow peppers. Would have appreciated more vegetables.
Aloo norma ($10.99)
Potatoes cooked in cashew paste, tomato, spices and cream. Slight heat to this dish but full of flavour. This was one of my favourite dishes of the night.
Vegetable sum biryani ($10.99)
Stewed vegetables mixed with Hyderabadi spices. Very good sized portion and I liked the chunks of potatoes that were included.
Gutti vankaya ($10.99)
Eggplants cooked with onion. There were about three eggplants (still whole) but the sauce/crushed eggplant was even better. Couldn’t stop dipping with the naan.
Garlic rice ($3.50)
Basmati rice mixed with fried garlic. Really garlicky = really delicious. I think I enjoyed this even more than the biryani.
Plain naan ($1.99)
Two huge pieces of naan. Thought these were great.
Gulab jamun ($3.99)
Two soaked milk balls to finish of our meal. Jboy’s favourite. I had a taste; not too sweet.
We were all really impressed with our first visit to Banjara. Looks like we found another gem. Happy to see more and more south Indian restaurants opening up.
