Continuing on our quest to try out all the places along 97 Street, next up on our list was Thanh Da Restaurant. We’d actually tried to go a few weeks ago but ended up coming on the only day that they’re closed. I haven’t been to this place in years and not much has changed since that initial visit. We dropped by on a Friday for lunch.
The hours are pretty standard but don’t forget, they’re closed on Wednesdays. Different from the usual Vietnamese Tuesday closure.
The menu is long and oddly, a bunch of items are randomly listed below a picture but then not on the actual list of dishes.
Hu tieu bo kho ($10.95)
Beef stew noodle soup. This is handwritten on their menu so it was obviously a sign. Bo kho is pretty hard to find in the city. Don’t think I can even think of another place that does it. The broth was a bit diluted but the beef was hearty, tender and fatty. Also loved the chunks of carrots and red onion.
Standard typical Thai basil and bean sprouts.
Another run of the mill Vietnamese place. Decent but wouldn’t go out of my way to come again.
