I believe Nightjar is Edmonton’s first official speakeasy bar. Although I’m not really sure you can label it as a real “speakeasy”. The inside is interesting but it was dead when we came on a Saturday evening. We didn’t need a password to get in.
The decor inside is a mix of armchairs and couches along with a bit of a haunting feeling from the old frames and pictures that stare right back at you.
There’s a dance floor in the corner with attached cheesy spinning disco ball. Odd. The music (top 40) doesn’t fit with the speakeasy vibe that their attempting to pull off.
Cocktails on the front. Beer, wine and highballs on the back. Nothing very exciting or different drink wise.
They had a couple drinks on special Saturday night but the options were pretty uninspiring. At least you get some free bar snacks. Apparently, you can order drinks that aren’t on the menu so maybe do that instead.
I wonder how busy they normally get as they’re only open Friday and Saturday’s (8:00pm to 2:00am). Can’t say this would be my go to drinking spot on Whyte.
