The Butchery

Round 4: holy crap, I can’t believe I’ve gone to every single Big Bottle in The Butchery event that they’ve had so far.

The menu was pretty small this time around and a little too similar for me; that being said, everything was still excellent. Sad that our normal waitress was MIA this time. 😦

Wine, beer and cider menu.

Dessert menu had a couple new items.

Wards Picker’s Hut handcrafted cider ($13.00)
DSC00196From Kelowna, so you know the apples are going to be fresh. From the label, apparently each apple is handpicked 😉 You get a really deep, distinct  flavour that you normally don’t find when you drink typical ciders around town. Great to share.

Planeta chardonnay 2011 ($14.00 for 5oz)
DSC00197A 2001 from Sicily, Italy. Pricey but this was the driest white wine on the menu and B loved it. Sharp, robust, smooth.

Cod brandade ($5.00)
DSC00198Cod was fantastic although a little salty.

Duck croquettes ($5.00)
DSC00201Good but the cod brandade was better.

Fried potato pavé ($5.00)
I thought these were nicely done; a little greasy but perfect bite sizes. Spread a bit of that luscious marscapone cheese on top.

Duck liver mousse ($10.00)
DSC00199With pickled beets and apple gastrique. The mousse was creamy, rich, indulgent. A little too heavy personally for both of us.

Mortadella ($15.00)
DSC00204Basil mint salsa verde with pickles. Finally got to try their homemade mortadella; so good! Honestly, their meat boards are why I keep coming back. That and dessert.

Angel food cake ($9.50)
DSC00207Beet-sour cherry ice cream, walnut brittle and creme anglaise. Holy crap; best thing we ate all night. Decadent and heaven on a plate. This is what you call a winning combination.

Bonus: celebratory chef spotting of Vancouver fame, Vikram Vij, who owns Vij’s.
