I’ve frequented the Italian Centre many times but have never ate at their cafe, Spinelli’s Bar Italia. Well, my friends wanted to check out the west end location, which is the only Spinelli’s that offers pizza (Little Italy and south side location do not).
The café is located to the right of the grocery store but there are a few tables outside if you want to enjoy the sunshine. Order at the counter and wait for the food to be brought to your table. Very basic, cafeteria style but the place was reasonably busy for a late Monday afternoon. Pretty smart of the Italian Centre to open a café in their stores. All the ingredients are right there for them to use!
Prosciutto arugula ($14.00)
Prosciutto, arugula, baby tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. Generous portions of thinly sliced, fresh prosciutto (that wasn’t too salty) with a tangy, sweet balsamic vinegar drizzled over top. I’m pretty sure arugula and prosciutto are just meant to be. Best pizza combo. We had some difficulties separating the slices as the prosciutto was in such long strip but it’s okay, we figured it out.
Prosciutto and artichokes. We actually ordered the calabrese pizza but the lady working the counter inputted our order wrong. The capricciosa was more mild but had a slight sourness from the artichokes. Both pizzas were thin crust style with a light crunch to them. They felt quite light and healthy.
Overall, we were pretty happy with our pizza orders and I would definitely come back to try a few more things. Or next time, I’ll make sure to come Friday to grab some of their fresh pizza dough to make at home. Definitely a solid spot in town to grab pizza.
