Viphalay Laos and Thai Restaurant

First time I’ve ever been to Viphalay although I’ve passed it a thousand times. Got to love grungy, hole in the wall looking restaurants from the outside – you just know it’s going to be good! There were 5 of us and we were hungry, so we decided to share a couple dishes.

Pad thai ($15.00)
Awesome. Noodles cooked perfectly, sauce not too sweet and has all the components of a classic pad thai that you crave. Makes me miss Thailand…

Drunken noodles with tofu ($14.00)
My friends loved this dish so much, they ordered a second one (after the first one was devoured). The noodles were pretty interesting, they looked like ramen noodles upon first inspection but they are actually egg noodles. Came with good amount of vegetables too!

Green curry with chicken ($14.00) – nice amount of spice/heat to it. Always perfect with coconut rice, to soak up the delicious green curry. Sorry for the blurry photo!

Sweet and sour fish (piew vahn bah) ($16.00)
Came with lots of vegetables (tomatoes, onions and sweet bell peppers). Fish was a tad overcooked. It was worth a try but we wouldn’t get it again.

Coconut rice ($6.00) – we got a large bowl which was plenty for everyone. Smelled and tasted amazing.

Massamun (brown) ($14.00) – we got this vegetarian style. This was probably our least favourite dish, sauce was overly sweet. Don’t bother ordering this one.

Great little Thai spot! Edmonton has a couple of great Thai gems and this is one of them. Definitely go check Viphalay out.
